The History of the VREF

The Veterans Research and Education Foundation (VREF) is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation that was established in 1989 to support the research and educational activities of the staff at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System.

The VREF strives to provide outstanding support to the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System staff in the research, education and training endeavors to foster progress in biomedical, clinical, rehabilitative and health care services programs that benefit the nation's veterans and the public.

VREF’s Mission

Our mission is to facilitate the medical research and education programs conducted at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System.

How the VREF Supports the VA

The VREF provides a needed funding mechanism for the conduct of peer reviewed, approved research and education activities. We have assisted research investigators by providing staffing support and resources for successful research applications, as well as provided travel funds to approved investigators to present research results to pave the way for future grant applications.

The VREF supports research and education through private donations, federal / state grants, and industry funding.
