A Message from our Director
Wade Vlosich, Oklahoma City VA Health Care System Director
The VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) released their report on selected construction projects at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System (VAHCS). The report can be viewed here: https://www.va.gov/oig/pubs/VAOIG-17-00253-102.pdf This review was part of a larger OIG review of healthcare and administrative issues at the Oklahoma City VAHCS. The first report on System-Wide Clinical, Supervisory, and Administrative Practices, was released in November 2017.
The report released today focuses on the construction of the new Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and expansion of the Operating Room Suite. The employees involved with these construction projects no longer work for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
OIG made four recommendations which we have already implemented or are actively working to complete.
• The construction areas in the SICU project are sealed to prevent further weather damage;
• We have strengthened oversight processes in our Engineering Department which include continual monitoring; and
• We have requested authorization in the FY19 budget to use existing VA funds (totaling $10.8 million) to complete the SICU project.
I continue to be committed to improving and advancing the care we provide because our Veterans deserve the best. We want to hear from our Veterans, whether you had a great experience at one of our facilities or you want to provide feedback on how we can better serve you. During any of your visits, you can ask to speak to one of our Customer Service Champions in any department. These staff members are trained to assist you resolve issues. Our team of Patient Advocates in our Veteran Experience Office are also available as a resource to you. You can visit them in Room 1B107 at our main facility or by calling (405) 456-1788. During non-business hours, you can visit our Medical Administration Officer at the check-in desk in the Emergency Room or call (405) 456-5412 for assistance.
Our continued focus is providing the best care that our Veterans have earned and deserve. Thank you for your service.
