OEF/OIF (Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom)

In America, many men and women choose to serve our country in the various branches of the military. Service members who do tours of duty in OEF/OIF face especially difficult and dangerous missions.  Although their service is appreciated, it sometimes comes at a high price to them personally. Healing Touch and Guided Imagery Pilot Project

The Oklahoma City VAMC was awarded a national VA grant to conduct a pilot project using Healing Touch and guided imagery as a three-week treatment series for PTSD, to be used along with traditional PTSD treatment.  The treatment series was developed by the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in California.  It has been used with post-deployment Marines from Afghanistan with PTSD symptoms, getting good results in decrease of symptoms.

Mental Health and Psychology Services

The mission of Mental Health Service at the VA Medical Center, Oklahoma City is to provide excellent care for all eligible veterans, provide education for residents and medical students, and offer staff multiple opportunities for research.
Our treatment philosophy is a biopsychosocial model which is utilized throughout different psychiatric services addressing the mental health needs of patients.  Examples of services include acute inpatient treatment, specialty programs of identified populations, as well as a wide array of outpatient services to promote aftercare at the hospital and in the outlying communities.

Veteran Recovery Center (VRC)

The VRC is a program for Veterans living with mental illness that affects their ability to lead the life they want to live in one or more ways.  Several services are available through the VRC, including skill-building classes, individual therapy, and medication management. Services are tailored to the goals of each Veteran, and participation is completely voluntary.  Our classes cover a wide range of topics.  Each class runs for 8 weeks, usually one class hour per week, and Veterans can choose to take as few or as many classes as they feel will help them with their recovery goals.  Once in the program, Veterans can participate in classes and activities on an ongoing basis (not limited to one 8-week set of classes), however long it takes for the Veteran to achieve his/her goals.
